Heat and moisture can wreak havoc on engines that are not being used. Garages and sheds get incredibly hot during summer months, so they are not the best choice when it comes to storing your snow blower. Choosing to store your snow blower in a Lock Up storage unit is the first step in preserving the tool that saves you from a sore back every winter. Here are some quick tips to help you prep your snow blower for storage over the summer months.

1. Clean off the exterior to remove any dirt and grime.
2. Drain the fuel from the tank, then let the engine run until it dies. This will burn off any excess fuel from the tank. Fuel, if left for long periods of time, can gum up which is very bad for engines.
3. While the engine is still hot, drain the oil from the unit. Then replace with fresh oil. This will prevent the moisture that’s suspended in the used oil from destroying the inside of the engine while in storage.
4. Grease all fittings to ensure that they don’t rust.
5. If you have it, place a custom cover over unit. Otherwise, use a tarp.
6. Store in a cool, dry Lock Up Self Storage unit.
