Winter Ski gear self StorageSki season is about to end and we at The Lock Up wanted to let you know that we have you covered. If you’re a real fan of snow sports, whether skiing or snowboarding, you probably already know how important it is to prepare your skis or boards for their summer hibernation. But, if you’re new to the game, or just need a refresher, we’ve got a few tips for your gear so that you can hit the slopes as soon as the first snowfall hits.

First thing you need to do is clean your skis and snowboard. A strong spray down with a hose should remove all the dirt and grime leftover from your last downhill run. It’s not a good idea to use any detergent because that can remove the lubricant in your bindings too. If you do have some muck around your bindings, use a rag dipped in a citrus solvent to wipe away excess.

If you were particularly rough on your board this season, or you hit some rocks with your skis, you might want to drop your gear off at your local shop so that the techs can really deburr your edges and sharpen them. You never know when your first trip of the season will be, so if you get this done now, you’ll be golden when the time comes.

A shop will likely set your gear up for the summer months, but if you forego that step, at the very least you will want to give a good thick coating of wax to your skis and/or snowboard. This will seal them up and keep any rust from forming while they’re stored. Be sure to get the edges too.

The next step is to make sure your boot liners are clean and dry. And if you want, you can loosen your bindings so that they don’t stay compressed all summer.

Now you’re ready to store everything. Do not put your winter toys in the attic! It’s way too hot for your winter friends. A climate controlled Lock Up Self Storage unit is the perfect place for your skis and/or snowboard. The temperature and humidity levels are constant, so your gear won’t be subjected to wild fluctuations that could really damage them. Our facilities are safe and secure, so you won’t have to worry who’s in your communal storage area of your condo.
